Does anyone know if this particular agency is a scam? I have my suspicions,
since they were referred by STLiterary Agency, which some sites insist is a
scam. But I'm keeping a semi-open but suspicious mind while waiting to hear back
from another agent.
Do other agents recommend (insist) on third-party editing? Or is this just ST?

Thanks for any info.

This reminds me of the Edit Ink scam that occurred a few years back.
No legit agent or agency I know insists that a third-party edit your
work. The agency is receiving a kickback from the third party. Take
your work elsewhere.

Thanks, folks. It's good to have my suspicions confirmed. I haven't tried to
sell anything in years, and there was that bare possibility that things had
changed. Good to know they haven't.

I don't know about this particular agency but as a non-subsidy publisher of
sixteen years, I do know that agents can't submit manuscripts that aren't
properly edited. I don't believe a literary agency should make specific
recommendations as far as editors but they have every right to suggest that
the material be edited . . . if they believe the manuscript has promise. I
used to include suggestions with almost every rejection slip . . . remember
that less than one percent of all manuscripts find a home with a trade
publisher. Publishers WANT to find good material . . . discover a new
writer . . . every day they hope the mailman brings them that unique,
well-written manuscript that shows "best seller" signs. Manuscripts from
agents usually don't get thrown immediately into the slush piles; however,
the agents have to send quality material or they lose credability.
